Living on The Myall Coast

On the Eastern seaboard of Australia, just over 2 hours from Sydney on the F3, and an hour north of Newcastle.  Tea Gardens & Hawks Nest are joined by the "Singing Bridge" so called because of the "singing" that is heard when the wind blows. The twin towns are on opposite sides of the Myall River.   The population was made up primarily of retirees but in recent years we have seen a large number of families moving to the area.

Employment opportunities are available locally although much of this is seasonal.  There are those who commute to work  to Newcastle, Medowie & Raymond Terrace.  As many business are now home-based - why not live in an environment where you feel like you're on holiday year round.

Hawks Nest Golf Course is one of the top 100 golf courses in NSW.  Surfing, tennis,  kayaking, cycling, walking - the Myall Lakes National Park is just down the road and ready for you to explore. Some 40km of pristine beaches on the Pacific Ocean, where you can 4WD and enjoy some amazing scenery.  Visit the "Little Gibber" & "Dark  Point" - camp at Korseman' s Landing.  For those who enjoy fishing there are so many options, estuary fishing, beach fishing - deep sea fishing. Snapper, Trevally, Leather Jacket, Bream, flathead & flounder or the local Blackfish, locals also catch the occassional crab for dinner. Visit Broughton Island , or just explore our own Yaccaba Headland.  A trip on the ferry to Nelson Bay  for the day is a must-do.  Whale watching or Dolphin sighting are also popular past-times for those visiting the area for the first time.

There is a medical centre & the local shopping centre features a Bi-Lo as well as several small boutiques.  An active arts community produces & sells its artwork through "Galleries in the Gardens" were visitors are encouraged to stroll through local shops & cafes to view the artworks.

Pindimar & Bundabah are also on the water. Here waterfront residences start at just under $500,000 with both areas still maintaining that old 'fishing village' feel.  Acreages are also available ranging from small acreage of 1.5 to over 100 acres.

North Arm Cove is approx 15 minutes away and sits on Port Stephens itself here small waterfront shacks still grace the shores while larger architect designed homes are going up. Deep waterfronts, beachfronts, jettys & slipways there is myriad choice!  The area is serene & private. Local flora & fauna are abundant with wallabies & rosellas regular visitors.  North Arm Cove is an easy commute of approx 45minutes to Newcastle.

Nerong is on the broadwater and great for skiing enthusiasts who want somewhere to holiday & minutes from the boat ramp.  House prices in Nerong are very affordable - a tiny hamlet located just between Tea Gardens & Bulahdelah.  Surrounded by National Park it is as yet undiscovered - this is one to watch!

Newcastle (Williamtown) Airport is only 40 minutes away and domestic & international connections make flying a breeze.

Land prices start at $ 175,000 and homes start from just over $200,000.  Waterfronts & homes with waterviews are offered at affordable prices - the Myall Coast is "just far enough away.."
